Our Counselling diploma path allows you to explore counselling theory in depth. Over six modules you will learn core humanist counselling theories and skills and extend that knowledge by exploring a wider range of counselling and psychotherapy theories.

Your journey starts with our core person-centred counselling module which will teach you the underlying theory and practice of counselling. You will also learn about professional issues and ethical considerations in our Professional Ethics module.

From here, you will learn about a range of different approaches to counselling including Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. You will also explore how Systemic Family Therapy can be used for working with couples.

By the end of the programme, you will have covered core humanistic counselling theory and explored a range of different approaches to psychotherapy.

About Level 3

Our Level 3 courses are unique in that they allow you to build on your knowledge of Level 1 and 2 courses. Each course you complete earns credit towards your Level 3 qualification which is then combined with a summative exam to demonstrate your knowledge.

Course requirements

Compulsory modules

All 20 credits of the compulsory modules must be completed.

Elective modules

40 credits from the elective modules must be completed.

Summative exam

Our summative exam validates the knowledge you have acquired while completing the diploma. It is a 90-minute online exam consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions. The exam tests you on the compulsory modules and the pass mark is 70%. Once you have an exam voucher, you can take the exam at a time that suits you. Learn more about exams.

What you will achieve

Completing the course will earn you a Diploma in Counselling awarded by Holbeck College and accredited by the International Association of Therapists. You will receive a digital certificate and a transcript.

Employers and other educational institutions will be able to validate your qualification using our online validation tool.

Learn as an independent candidate

If you do not want to complete the diploma at your own pace you can register for individual modules with either ourselves or other learning platforms: completing our courses anywhere can be used as credit.

Once you have completed all of the modules and the exam you can upload your certifiates using the My Holbeck portal. We will then validate your evidence and issue your diploma.

How do I register for the diploma?

There are two routes: you can register for the diploma directly or you can complete the individual modules and then submit your evidence at the end.
